Hello everyone,
I hope everyone is having a great week. Halloween is approaching and I am sure it can be stressful adding another function to your already full schedule. With the growing numbers of people with stress and anxiety, I wanted to take a few minutes and talk about how a spa night at home might alleviate some of the symptoms that come with these annoying conditions. Let’s face it, more and more people are on medications for depression, stress, and anxiety than ever before. It’s just out of control. I can remember my Grandmother always telling me “God never said life was going to be easy. This is true on so many levels. I’m going to share with you some things I like to do for an at-home spa night.
Essential Oils
I love using essential oils to relax and unwind. My favorite scent is lavender. It has a calming effect and it makes me feel relaxed. I just pour a few drops of oil into a diffuser, plug it in, and let the scent fill the room. This creates a great ambiance to feel relaxed. Essential oils have many healing properties so you can mix them up any way you want to achieve the level of healing you need. They are used for overall wellness and each scent has a specific ailment to heal. Most scents treat more than one ailment. Essential oils are the foundation for the mood I am trying to set.
Candles
Next, I will light candles, my favorite being a Buttercream Yankee Candle. It is the best smelling candle ever. Yankee candles are known for their strong pleasant aromas. There is really nothing like them. They are worth the pretty penny you pay for them. I have been using them for years and they really make a house smell and feel like home. They also last a long time, which makes them even more worth the money. Candles are another way to help set the mood for a relaxing spa experience. This is an important step that should not be missed. Remember you are creating your at-home spa night and this is an essential part of the process.
Hair
Next, I will put my hair in a bun to keep it out of my face and off of my shoulders. This makes me feel like I have lifted some of the weight off of my shoulders, so to speak. Unless of course, I am washing, or conditioningit, which I usually do in the mornings, not at night. The rare exception would be if I wanted or needed to do a hair mask. I wear my hair down all day long most days, so it feels good to put it up and let the warm water hit my shoulders. This is a good way to unwind from the day.
Music
I like to put on some relaxing music to get in the chill mode. It makes me feel like I am at a real spa. This helps me fall into a deeper state of relaxation. It will help you forget all about your day and the office politics that try to come home with you. Leave all of that at work and just melt into the moment. This is your time to take care of yourself. Everyone needs a little me-time eh? Why not make it all about you during that time. It really is essential to your well being.
Bubble Bath
I will then run a nice hot bubble bath. The hotter the better. You can always let it cool down to your liking or add cool water to it. A nice hot bubble bath will help you relax and let the stress of the day just melt away. I usually lay in the tub with my eyes closed for a few minutes listening to the relaxing music and think about everything good and positive in my life. Like the saying goes, what you think about will resurface as a reality, good or bad. Try to think good thoughts while you are relaxing. Think about anything that makes you feel happy.
Detoxing
A good way to detox your body is to get a good body scrub to get rid of dead skin cells. You are going to need a good loofah to scrub your body with, which is what I use. It feels so good to scrub my skin with a loofah. It is so relaxing and it provides a clean surface for when I moisturize. You might be surprised what you pick up from the environment. The body scrub gives my skin the deep cleaning it needs. It is an essential part of the at-home spa experience. When I am done scrubbing, the bubbles in my bath usually have disappeared. Now it is time to towel dry my body.
Moisturize
Now that I have scrubbed my body, I am ready to moisturize it with a good lotion that has a great spa smell to it to keep the mood flowing. Remember, this is a spa experience and these small details help promote the healing of your mind, body, and spirit. It will also help you sleep better because you will be more relaxed. They do this for a reason when you are at the spa and you are trying to create this experience at home. Spa days are expensive and while it is good to do them occasionally as a treat, not everyone can afford to go regularly. Why not buy some good spa-like products to create the same experience at home?
Mask
After a good facial cleanser, I will use a good face mask to remove impurities and improve my skin tone for a fresh looking skin canvas. This also helps me relax because by now I am feeling good from taking such good care of myself. After leaving the mask on for the recommended amount of time, I wash my face and dry it well. Some masks peel off and some are just washed off. Make sure to read the instructions so you are taking the correct action for the mask you are using.
Night Cream
Now I have reached the last step, which is to apply a good night cream to my face to wear while I am sleeping. I recommend that you use a good anti-aging night repair cream to wear overnight. This will help reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Who wouldn’t want that, right? Let’s face it, we all get them, so we might as well use good skin care products to slow down the aging process. We must take good care of our skin, even when we are young. This is a vital part of the healing process as well. Feeling good about yourself is important. By now you should be relaxed enough to get ready for a good nights sleep. You should be in a state of bliss so you can drift off to lollipop land with ease and wake up well rested.
Well, that wraps up my idea of an at-home spa night. What are some of your thoughts and experiences about what you think would be a great at-home spa night experience? I would love to hear some new ideas to try. Feel free to comment on this post. Also, likes and shares are greatly appreciated.
